The Upgrade Process

SalesLogix is a very customizable application, which inherently complicates the upgrade process.  For example, if you have added a new field or feature to the main Account form in your current version, that feature may need to be added back in after an upgrade.  Take that small example times tens, hundreds, or even thousands of customizations, and you could have your work cut out for you.  Here is a brief overview of the typical upgrade process:

  • Create a test environment
  • Install your current version of SalesLogix and database server in test environment
  • Review and document all of your customizations
  • Create a bundle of all of your customizations
  • Run the upgrade process in the test environment
  • Test the upgraded system, modify scripts and forms, test some more...
  • Once you are comfortable with the upgraded test system, apply the same steps, customizations, and bundles to the production environment
